JazzyKat :
I’ll be moving to the US from Australia within the next 6 months… my husband is a US citizen.
I don’t know a whole lot about Politics over there but i’m very keen to get more involved and I was wondering how I would go about that.
I’m not a fan of George Bush but I don’t really know anything about his party is he a Republican or Democrat?
What are the differences between those 2 parties?
Is there anywhere I could go to learn more about state and federal politics and how the voting system works?
Thank you for you help

Perfect. Most Americans don’t know much about it either.
What can you tell me about the Gold Coast?
Please do not listen to anyone that offers their opinon on either party. Go to there websites. Google search for them
formulate your own opinion. too many folks on here just jump to whatever ship may be popular at the time. Instead of thinking for themselves. and then just say whatever they think their party of choice believes in. Most of these people are too young to vote anyways.
A Democrat taxes and spends
A Republican spins and attacks
If you you want to get idea of American politics register to vote then take part in your parties caucus after the Presidential primary.
In practice, there are no real differences between the parties. People say there are, and politicians let them think that, but it isn’t so.
There are only the Ins and the Outs.
But you might want to try the League of Women Voters website for more information on voting here.
Good luck and welcome in advance.
George Bush is a Republican, who despite media reports, is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He did a pretty decent job of running this country for eight years. I could tell you about Republicans and Democrats, but it would come off as very biased since I am a libertarian leaning on the Republican side. Actually, it’s funny, whatever I post about Liberals that I thought would be demeaning and mean, they just take it as me describing their party the right way. So use the google web search and the sites that come up will tell you what you wnat to know. Also, if you want to, you can type in “political party quiz” on Google to see what party you belong to.
God help ya…and us. Bush is the most polarizing figure in politics in 50 years at least. please don’t put too much stock in what you read on this site…often inhabited by vicious angry peoples.bent on attacking any and all who question his policies.
I hope I don’t sound stupid, but how soon will it be after you arrive in our country that you will be eligible to vote? i.e. become a citizen?
i say its a big mistake moving to the usa. its becoming a comunist country and you’d be well advised to stay in australia.
on the bottom of the page are
some good informative documentaries on the subject
